Cross passes of Terskey Ala-Too
Part of the Northern Tien Shan and situated along the south-side of Issyk-Kul Lake. The highest peak of the area is Peak Karakol (5218 m), others are Jeti-Oguz Wall (5181 m), Peak Jigit (5072 m) and Ak-Suu Wall (5020 m). The passes do not exceed 3900m. The route will follow paths through the forests (with Tien Shan birch, Tien Shan firs, archa-trees, edelweiss). In this area of multi-coloured rocks with many lakes there are no permanent settlements; in the summer many nomadic families take their yurts to the 'jailoo' (high mountain meadows) and pasture their animals (horses, sheep, cows and goats) and prepare the fermented mare's milk, 'kymyz'.
