Terskey-Ala Too in translation 'multi-colour with snow mountains, turned away from the sun', situated south of Lake Issyk Kul, 375 km long and 60-80 km in width, average height about 4600 m, highest point 5216 m. Average height of the Passes are between 3600-4800 m. High in the mountains live the famous Snow Leopard, Marco Polo Sheep, Ibex and other animals.
Trek starts in Bokonbaevo, a village on the southside of the Issyk Kul Lake. Typical Kyrgyz village, with a canyon (like a big inlet), fishpond and an orchard. The village has a collective farm and a cooperation.
After arrival in Bishkek, late breakfast/lunch, transfer to Bokonbaevo Canyon, south side Issyk Kul Lake, visit the horses. Every day camping near water and/or in an area with good grass for the horses.
Start next day on horse via Kok Sai, Kongur Olon to Komsomol and go up along river Mambet Tor (Terskey Ala Too range), camp before Kongur Olon (altitude of 3854 m) pass. After crossing the pass, down along the river Kada Kudjur and preparation for crossing the second pass of your trip, the Pass Jalpak Bel (altitude of 3500 m). Camping always just before or after the high passes. After crossing Jalpak Bel, go down again into the direction of the river Kichi (small)-Naryn and along groundroad to Jyly Suu. One day of rest, bath in the hotsprings, visit the beautiful Lake Teshik Kol (altitude at 3504 m) and next day further along river Uch Emchek, into the direction of river Ashuulu Tebe and preparation for the next pass of the trip, the Pass Tosor (altitude of 3893 m) and go down along the river Tosor to the place where the river Ak Terek is. Last day back to the Issyk Kul Lake area, visit some villages on the way and rest near the beach and next day back to Bishkek.
