Situated in the middle of Kyrgyzstan, trek near the famous lake Sary Chelek; small pearl of Kyrgyzstan, rarely visited by western foreigners. The Lake and surroundings is protected area and a Biosphere Reserve. The fourth largest Lake of the country. The reserve is botanically most important, it supports more than 1,000 species of plants and nearly 33% of the protected area remains forested (walnut) and of particular significance are the number of wild ancestors of commercially important plants found here - wild apples, endemic walnuts and other nut-bearing trees, wild tulips, grapes etc.
Day 1: | Arrival in Bishkek, night in hotel. |
Day 2: | Transfer to Toktogul, further to the village of Cholpon Ata, camp, near river. |
Day 3: | After breakfast truck brings the group till the start of the trek, village Almalu, near Kara Kulja river. Start of walking, walk up 12 km, camp near the river. |
Day 4: | Walk into the direction of the river Okun (altitude 1781m), 13 km, camp. |
Day 5: | Walk up to Kashka Suu pass (3600 m) and down to lake Kara Suu, camp. |
Day 6: | Up to pass Kotormo (2446 m) and take the path west to Sary Chelek lake, camp. |
Day 7: | Enjoy the morning at Sary Chelek and walk further to Arkyt. |
Day 8: | Back to Bishkek, or further to Osh (and to Uzbekistan). |
